Springbok Aphelele Fassi staying put at the Sharks

The Sharks have secured the services of Springbok Aphelele Fassi on a new multi-year deal.

After attending Dale College in the Eastern Cape, the flyer joined the Durban-based franchise straight out of school in 2018. Since, Fassi has notched up over 70 appearances for the Sharks, earning a Springbok cap along the way where he scored a sizzling try against Georgia.

Now, it is understood that the Sharks won the tug-of-war with the Stormers to secure his services for the future.

Revealing the news on their social media via a video clip on Thursday, Fassi described what the franchise meant to him.

"I've loved every single moment here at the Sharks," said the 25-year-old.

"Durban has been my home ever since I left high school. I've spent the last six years at a big franchise like the Sharks, it has been a massive privilege for me.

"You know, the time has come to start a new journey, a new chapter. I'm proud to announce my contract renewal with the Cell C Sharks. Durban is home, this jersey is home. Let's go!"

The fullback was injured in the Sharks' loss to the Stormers in the URC last week and faces six to eight weeks on the sidelines.
