SA Rugby earlier confirmed that former Bok Women fly-half Zenay Jordaan is set to complete her World Rugby Level 3 coaching course and return to the national team to assist the coaching staff as part of the Gallagher High Performance Academy programme.
Speaking to SABC Sport, Johannes-Haupt said it is good to see the empowerment of former players in allowing them a platform to share their vast knowledge with the new generation.
"It is really exciting to have Zenay return to national rugby. She has given so much to the game as a player, and has more to offer as a coach, considering the wealth of knowledge she accumulated over the years. This is special and will help grow the women’s game," said the assistant mentor.
Jordaan played her last Test in 2022, concluding her career as the most capped player with a total of 36 caps for the Bok Women, and Johannes-Haupt believes the 2013 Springbok Women Player of the Year's background will come in handy at the World Cup.
"Her experience will help keep our girls calm in tough situations. This makes more sense because she has played the game at the highest level," she added.
Johannes-Haupt also touched on why coaching education is important to help empower former national team players.
“It really helps more women be involved, whether at grassroots or at high performance level, and it's special to see them give back to the sport they love, and education gives them an additional boost," concluded the former Junior Bok Women head coach.
The Springbok Women will now shift focus to the defence of their Africa Cup in Madagascar next month, with Johannes-Haupt highlighting their intentions.
"The team is already in camp. We will be participating in this competition with the World Cup in mind and using it to gauge players ahead of the World Cup," she expressed.
