Kubota Spears confirm Marx's absence for upcoming season

Japan Rugby League One side Kubota Spears confirmed that Springbok Malcolm Marx will miss the upcoming season.

The Springbok hooker suffered a serious knee injury during training at the Rugby World Cup in France, resulting in him flying back to South Africa for surgery.

While Marx returned to France to watch the Boks beat New Zealand in the epic Rugby World Cup Final on Saturday, he is several months away from returning to the training field.

Marx helped the Kubota Spears to their League One title earlier this year, beating the Saitama Wild Knights in the final.

However, in a video shared on Monday, Marx confirmed that he will not be available for the new season, which begins in December.

"Unfortunately, due to my injury I won™t be able to play next season but I will be back for the following season, hopefully," said the 29-year-old.

"Please carry on your amazing support towards the team. I think the team and everybody really appreciate it."
