Junior Boks performance clock about to strike - Kevin Foote

Junior Springboks performance clock is about to strike according to head coach Kevin Foote, as his side prepares for their World Junior Championship title defence.

The Junior Boks are in Georgia as they begin their defence tonight against Uruguay U20 in the first of three pool encounters.

Speaking to the media ahead of the Championship, Foote says his side is in a really good space and fitness is on their side…

"Everyone is firing and I think our performance clock is about to strike if I'm honest. The guys are in a good space and they are extremely fit. The combinations have been working really well so we do want to give everyone a go within these first two games. The team that will start against Uruguay in the first game is balanced and settled."

The Junior Boks have had a better build-up to the competition this time around having played more games, however, there have been a few disruptions in between with the side losing players to the senior Springbok alignment camps, but Foote rather sees it as a good thing.

Rambo Kubheka who has been part of the 2025 triumph has been entrusted with the captaincy. He says the side will not focus on past achievements and believes all his teammates have put up their hands to do their jobs.

"First and foremost this is a blessing for me. If you had told me a year ago that I would captain South Africa I would've said you're joking. We are going into this game with our own clean slate and we are not living off our past achievements."

The Junior Springboks take on Uruguay at the Avchala Rugby Stadium with kick-off scheduled for 18h30 (SA time).
