Green and gold returns: Springboks back in traditional colours for Ireland clash

The Springboks will be back in their traditional green and gold jerseys for Saturday's clash against Ireland in Dublin, with the hosts set to wear an alternate strip.

The Boks have been clad in white for their last two Tests against France and Italy, even when there was no obvious colour clash. The changes followed the Six Nations' adoption of World Rugby's colour-blind-inclusive guidelines, designed to make matches easier to follow for the estimated 300 million colour-blind fans worldwide.

In Dublin, however, the roles are set to be reversed, with the two teams agreeing that the home side will switch to an alternate kit, as rugby tradition dictates.

It mirrors last year's arrangement when the Boks hosted the Irish in Cape Town and wore white.

At the 2023 World Cup, the Springboks also wore a special white kit for their pool match after their standard alternate jersey clashed with Ireland's light green.

In 2017, Ireland's grey alternate kit caused controversy as it still clashed with the Springboks' green and gold, perhaps even worse than their traditional colours would have.
