Former Springbok signs as SWD Eagles coach

Former Springbok Zane Kirchner is the new head coach of the South Western District Eagles, the franchise confirmed this week.

The former Bok fullback - who earned 31 Test caps and featured for Griquas, Bulls, Leinster, Dragons and the Bristol Bears in his storied career - takes over from Anton Moolman.

Kirchner had been fulfilling the assistant coach role under Moolman. In a post on the SWD Eagles social media, the 39-year-old is looking forward to the responsibility.

"While embracing the magnitude of responsibility, I'm under no illusion to the task at hand and what it will take," said Kirchner.

"This is an opportunity to serve and hopefully show each of these men the quality they all hold to becoming the best version of themselves.

"A word of appreciation for the belief and trust shown. To the masses throughout the broader rugby communities near and far, thanks for the well wishes, words of encouragement and continuous support."
