Stormers coach John Dobson admitted he greatly enjoyed seeing his talented Stormers side turn on the fireworks against the Bulls in front of a rapturous home crowd on Friday.

While the first half of the United Rugby Championship derby did not go according to plan for the reigning URC champions, the Stormers really caught fire after the break, running in three scintillating tries that perfectly illustrated what a dangerous attacking side they've become.

Joseph Dweba, Suleiman Hartzenberg and Leolin Zas all crossed the whitewash to run up a 34-13 lead and effectively put the contest to bed before a late Bulls rally brought a bit more respectability to the scoreline.

Dobson admitted he was as happy after the final whistle as he was unsatisfied at half-time when the score was still 13-all.

"I was disappointed with our return when we came in for halftime: we could have done better there. But those tries.. I read this week that we like to kick to the corner and maul â- which is how we got our first try â- but the real DNA of the Stormers were those tries," Dobson said.

"So, I was very proud (of that) and pleased for the people. To have 30 000 here and see those tries makes us extremely happy.

"It was always going to be an intense game. Maybe because of the intensity of the game, I thought we weren't as disciplined as we could've been, and I think that ill-discipline comes from a good place tonight â- trying to compete, trying to (be physical). At halftime, we were disappointed. That's the truth, but we put it right."

Stormers captain Steven Kitshoff had another massive game, leading to a Man of the Match award, and when asked how they managed to turn things around at half-time, the Bok stalwart chose to keep his cards close to his chest.

"It's a state secret!" he quipped.

"We spoke about missed opportunities â- Hacjivah's double movement and the penalties we gave away in the middle third by being a bit too over-eager in trying to win that confrontation game. I think we kept them in the game a bit.

"At halftime, the only chat was let's avoid the mid-third penalties â- between the two 10-metre lines â- and just actually finish our opportunities, and that's exactly what happened in the first 20 of the second half."

With the win, the Stormers have moved up to second on the URC log with 39 points, trailing only Irish powerhouse Leinster, who have 43.
