Currie Cup: Sharks down Griquas - WP dominate Blue Bulls

The Sharks defeated the Griquas 24-6 at Kings Park on Saturday to consolidate third place on the Currie Cup table, before Western Province thrashed the Blue Bulls.

A defeat for the men from Durban would have seen the fourth-placed Griquas move ahead of them on the table, but a victory for the visitors never looked on the cards.

The Sharks dominated the first half, hitting back after an early Griquas penalty with a try from centre Alwayno Visagie, who used his impressive pace to run onto a loose ball kicked ahead by flyhalf Lionel Cronje before scoring in the corner.

Despite Fouche slotting a second penalty, the Sharks continued to dominate and were rewarded with a try from hooker Kerron van Vuuren in the 32nd minute following a textbook lineout maul.

Cronje converted the try, sending the Sharks into a 14-6 lead at halftime.

The second half was marred by heavy rain and missed opportunities from both teams, but the Sharks were able to keep the visitors at bay with a penalty from Cronje and a third try from scrumhalf Bradley Davids in the 55th minute to seal the comfortable win.

Western Province 31-7 Blue Bulls

Western Province produced a complete performance against a Blue Bulls team loaded with United Rugby Championship players in Cape Town.

Their young side secured a bonus point 31-7 Currie Cup win over their more experienced counterparts, building it on a solid defence that the Bulls had no answer to.

The WP pack, led by Stormers flanker Willie Engelbrecht, battered the Bulls' pack of forward and backs.

Province players for the future, locks Dylan de Leeuw and Keke Morabe, had brilliant games.

One of the standout performers of the evening was scrumhalf Godlen Masimla, who kept his team on the front foot with quick service, pestering the Bulls when they tried to clear the ball and putting his opposite numbers under heavy pressure.

Ultimately, it was a complete team domination of the star-studded Blue Bulls, securing their place among the top teams in the domestic competition.
