Currie Cup: Pumas thump Stormers XXIII to stay in playoff contention

The Pumas stayed in the hunt for a Currie Cup playoff spot after thumping Stormers XXIII 29-7 at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit on Saturday.

The victory lift the Pumas into fourth position in the Currie Cup standings after a third win in five outings, while it was a third defeat for the team from Cape Town.

The hosts had a strong first half as they took the lead from a Nevaldo Fleurs penalty before Thomas Bursey went over for the games opening try.

The Pumas then struck a blow on the stroke of the halftime as Banie Britz scored his team's second try as the hoem side took a 15-0 lead into the break.

The men from the Cape certainly came out with more determination after interval and pulled a try back in the 51st minute thanks to Mfundo Ndhlovu.

The hosts though were never letting up and Jan-Henning Campher went in for his team's third try with a little over 20 minutes of the contest remaining.

The Pumas sealed a dominant performance with JJ Scheepers going over for the bonus-point try.
