Currie Cup: Cheetahs hold off WP in Bloemfontein, Lions tame Pumas in Nelspruit

The Cheetahs saw off a gallant effort from Western Province in Bloemfontein, while the Lions overcame the Pumas in Nelspruit in Currie Cup action played on Saturday.

Cheetahs hang on for victory despite WP fightback

The Cheetahs secured a 31-24 bonus-point victory at the Toyota Stadium against Western Province despite a late surge from the visitors.

The home side opened the scoring through wing Cohen Jasper and added further tries with Banie Britz, lock Juan Venter and No 8 Neels Volschenk going over.

WP looked dead and buried at 31-10 down going into teh final 20 minutes and fought back with tries by replacements Jared Africa and Enos Ndiao but its was ultimately not enough.

Lions' second-half surge tames Pumas

The Lions beat the Pumas 36-28 at the Mbombela Stadium after the teams went into the break with the score at 21 apiece.

Kelly Mpeku, Angelo Davids, Renzo du Plessis - with a brace - and Dylan Sjoblom were the try-scorers for visitors while Lubabalo Dobela succeeded with four conversions and a solitary penalty.

Ruwald van der Merwe, Ross Braude, Darren Adonis and Jan-Henning Campher all went over for five-pointers for the Pumas while Danrich Visagie converted all the tries from the kick tee.

It was good bounce back from the Lions after going down to a shock loss against Boland in Wellington last week.
