Bulls suffer quarter-final defeat in Edinburgh despite impressive comeback

Edinburgh held off a spirited second-half comeback from the Bulls to claim a 34–28 victory in the EPCR Challenge Cup quarter-final at Hive Stadium on Saturday.

The hosts stormed into an early lead, going 24-7 ahead by half-time thanks to a blistering attacking display.

James Lang crossed twice for Edinburgh, including the opening try, while Magnus Bradbury and Grant Gilchrist added further scores. Ross Thompson was instrumental with the boot, slotting four conversions and two penalties.

Despite trailing heavily at the break, the Bulls came out fighting in the second half.

David Kriel crossed twice, Cameron Hanekom added a try, and a penalty try was awarded after Edinburgh's Ross McCann was sin-binned for illegal entry into a maul.

The match, officiated by French referee Pierre Brousset, saw discipline come under the spotlight. Bulls' Zak Burger was also sin-binned for a deliberate knock-on at the breakdown, a costly setback during their attempted resurgence.

With Keagan Johannes and Johan Goosen sharing conversion duties, the South African side clawed their way back into the contest.

However, Edinburgh's defensive grit proved decisive. A late yellow card to Bulls forward Jannes Kirsten for a high tackle on McCann hampered the visitors' momentum, while Pierre Schoeman's crucial turnover in the dying moments sealed the win for the Scottish side.
