Breyton Paulse stamps his approval on new Stormers jersey

The Stormers and technical sponsor Adidas officially launched the iconic home jersey, which features the blue and white hoops synonymous with the Cape Town- based franchise. 

However, it is the black away jersey which has caught the attention of many, particularly the former Springbok winger, who reminisced about the legendary 1999 DHL Stormers ‘Men in Black’ era, of which he was a member, before moving to France where he went on to play for Clermont Auvergne.

Paulse has also thrown his support behind the Stormers squad ahead of the new season, adding that the black away jersey will give them that extra spark. 

"Those were the good old days. We had so much fun and it was kind of unique as well. We were a band of brothers that played for one another and the people of Cape Town.

"I had a bit of an emotional moment when I saw this jersey because I know the boys are going to make us proud and they are going to play with a lot of passion, and I really can't see why they can't do well."

The home jersey was first revealed at Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry when the Stormers took on the All Blacks on 7 August 2026 at DHL Stadium. Senior brand director of Adidas South Africa, Tom Brown, says it was a great stage to showcase the new jersey. He also revealed that there were plans to debut the black away jersey however, it would have caused a colour clash with the All Blacks jersey.

Adidas returned as the DHL Stormers’ official technical apparel partner ahead of the 2025-26 season after eight years apart. 

Following the last campaign in the United Rugby Championship, where the Stormers finished third in the overall standings and were eliminated in the semifinals, Brown has said Adidas has already seen the return on its investment. 

Stormers loose forward Evan Roos has described wearing the team’s jersey as special, adding that the longer he plays for the Stormers, the more he sees what it means to everyone in Cape Town, as well as to his family. Roos says the connotation the black jersey has to the 1999 squad makes it special, as some of his heroes played in that ‘Men in Black’ squad. 

"The longer you play the more you realise what it means. When you look at your teammates, your coaches, your family in the crowd, and all the emotion and pride on their faces especially the kids, you begin to realise what this jersey means to people."
