Bok viking RG Snyman reportedly out for the rest of Leinster season

Springbok superstar RG Snyman is set to be ruled out for the rest of Leinster's season due to injury.

The Leinster lock was a notable absentee from coach Leo Cullen's team to face Scarlets in the United Rugby Championship clash on Saturday.

During a press conference, Cullen revealed that Snyman injured his right knee- not the left which has had ACL surgery - following a heavy collision with opposite number Alex Samuel during the second half of Leinster's defeat to Glasgow Warriors last week.

"He will be out for a while," said Cullen, as per the Irish Times.

"I will probably get a full report out next week. Unfortunately, he is going to miss a while. It is different from his other leg that he would have injured previously. He could be out for a while."

When asked if he would be surprised to see the World Cup winner run out in blue again this season, Cullen responded: "Yeah."

Leinster are heading into the business end of their Champions Cup and URC campaigns, with the finals taking place on 24 May and on 20 June, respectively.

"I'm more worried about what we do now, than what we don't have, as you know," continued Cullen, who is already down two experienced locks in James Ryan and Ryan Baird.

"So we just move on. There's still plenty of experience there, which is good. No choice but to absorb the blow."

In terms of Snyman's availability for the Springboks during the international window, coach Rassie Erasmus will have to wait for the full medical prognosis in the coming days. The four-time World Champions are currently without Salmaan Moerat, but have deep lock stocks.

The Springboks get their season underway in Gqeberha in a non-cap match against the Barbarians, then they face England in their Nations Championship opener at Ellis Park on 4 July.
