All Blacks and Wallabies name teams for second Bledisloe Cup clash

The All Blacks have named three debutants in their side to face Australia on Saturday, while the Wallabies have handed the captaincy to scrumhalf Tate McDermott.

With the Rugby Championship and Bledisloe Cup already secured, All Blacks head coach Ian Foster has rung the changes to his matchday squad for this weekend's clash at Forsyth Barr Stadium in Dunedin.

There are a massive 13 alterations to the starting line-up with the big news being Will Jordan's switch from the right wing to full-back with Shaun Stevenson coming in to make his debut in the number 14 jersey while Samipeni Finau is also set to make his international debut on the blindside flank.

Meanwhile, utility back Dallas McLeod is also in line for a Test debut after being named on the replacements bench.

Elsewhere, Sam Cane returns from injury to captain the side in the All Blacks' final home Test of the season after he missed the first Bledisloe Cup clash which the All Blacks won 38-7 in Melbourne last week.

Front-row Fletcher Newell and utility back Leicester Fainga'anuku have also returned from injury to be named in the matchday squad for the first time this season.

Fainga'anuku has been named on the left wing alongside Stevenson and Jordan in an exciting back three.

After making his debut from the bench against the Springboks in the Round Two Rugby Championship Test at Mount Smart Stadium in Auckland, loosehead prop Tamaiti Williams will start alongside Samisoni Taukei'aho (hooker) and Nepo Laulala (tighthead) in the front row.

Jones puts his faith in McDermott

Meanwhile, Wallabies head coach Eddie Jones has entrusted 24-year-old McDermott with the leadership reins after Allan Alaalatoa, who captained Australia in last week's Bledisloe Cup Test in Melbourne, was ruled out due to an Achilles injury which he sustained in that match.

Michael Hooper and James Slipper - who are Australia's official co-captains - are not named in the Wallabies' starting line-up for this fixture.

Hooper is still sidelined with a calf injury which he sustained in training ahead of their Round Two Rugby Championship clash with Argentina, while Slipper has been named amongst the replacements for the Bledisloe Cup rematch at Forsyth Barr Stadium.

Despite suffering a 38-7 loss to New Zealand in Melbourne, Jones has kept faith with most of the players who started that match. The backline remains unchanged although there are some alterations to the pack of forwards.

In the back row, Tom Hooper shifts from openside flank to the blindside, where he takes over from Jed Holloway, while Fraser McReight comes into the run-on side to wear the number seven jersey.

In other changes, Alaalatoa's spot as the starting tighthead prop is taken by Pone Fa'amausili while, in the second-row, Richie Arnold replaces Will Skelton, who drops down to the replacements bench.

Despite being relatively young, Jones believes McDermott is the right choice as captain and expects him to shine in the leadership role.

"We need to regenerate the team. We've got our third captain in the Rugby Championship and plus," Jones said.

"Watching him closely at Super Rugby level, he captains a young Reds team and now coming into the team as the starting nine, he's got great potential, a calm head but shows good direction and the field and he's got all the attributes of a good captain."
