Spar Proteas unveil new kit ahead of Netball World Cup 2023

Netball South Africa (NSA) has celebrated International Women’s Day in spectacular fashion today, unveiling the new Spar Proteas kit ahead of the Netball World Cup 2023, scheduled to be hosted in Cape Town from late July.

South Africa is the first country to reveal its kit for the World Cup and NSA’s President Cecilia Molokwane is proud of this milestone.

"It's important that we launched this kit today, especially on International Women's Day. The most important thing is, it's our day. We're celebrating us as women," said Molokwane.

"And PUMA is saying, 'We want to celebrate you, by flagging you to the world,' and showing the world what the girls will be wearing at the 2023 Netball World Cup.

"And you know, what is more important is the meaning of the kit – we are saying we are United Warriors, but it has the coat of arms inside, it has a little bit of the country's flag, it has that diversity that we are, as South Africans, a diverse and united nation.

"And, as I said, there is nothing that unites this country better than sport."

The new kit sponsored by German sportswear giant PUMA derives inspiration from various elements of South African culture, including the coat of arms.

PUMA South Africa's Marketing Director, Brett Bellinger

"So, the home kit has a very strong reference to the national flag on it – it's dark green, the typical, I guess, South African green that you would find on all national team kits, and then it's got a beautiful reference down the side that you would see on the coat of arms," he explained.

"And the away kit is much more inspired by African art, and we blast out the colours, so you've got pinks, blues and yellows, so kind of non-typical South African flag colours but African art colours, for sure."

The Netball World Cup 2023 takes place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre from July 28 until August 6.
