Nozipho Mlambo: The extended partnership with WBSA is vital

Sasol senior manager for Group Brand and Sponsorships Nozipho Mlambo says extending their 18-year long partnership with Wheelchair Basketball South Africa is key to exposing differently abled athletes to international opportunities.

This comes after announcing a four-year sponsorship deal with the national basketball federation on Wednesday.

In an exclusive interview with SABC Sport, Mlambo says the partnership had to be renewed to help build a transformative legacy for wheelchair basketball in South Africa.

“Continuing our sponsorship of WBSA is important because this partnership has always been about more than just sport; it is about unlocking the energy that powers potential.

For 18 years, Sasol and WBSA have worked side by side to create opportunities where others see limitations, enabling differently abled athletes to live the impossible.

“Renewing this partnership allows us to build on a legacy that has transformed wheelchair basketball in South Africa. “We have seen athletes become global competitors, and communities embrace inclusion through the power of sport. By extending our support, Sasol is reaffirming its commitment to championing excellence, expanding access, and fuelling the next generation of athletes who are ready to break new barriers,” said Mbatha.

Sasol’s support has played a critical role in enabling the national teams to compete on the global stage, including appearances at the U23 Men’s World Champions, U25 Women’s World Championships and Commonwealth Games and the African Paralympic Games.

With the sponsorship expected to run until 2029. Mlambo unpacks the mandate for Wheelchair Basketball South Africa for the next four years.

“The mandate for WBSA is to expand the sport’s footprint, deepen its community impact, and nurture excellence at every level. Together, Sasol and WBSA will focus on; elevating educational and sporting excellence for differently abled athletes by strengthening development pathways and high-performance structures.”
