The superb mixed martial artist straight out of Diepsloot defended his PFL Africa bantamweight title with focus and flare in April this year. This time around he is away from the love of his home supporters as he sets out to make a seismic statement on the next Global level.
In an exclusive conversation with SABC Sport, this is what the African Champion thinks about the prospect of conquering a Global MMA stage…
“This is where I always wanted to be. I’ve always been saying that I’m global material and seeing it manifest makes me realise that I’m living the dream. PFL Global is where I wanted to be since I started fighting. Making my global debut now in DC is amazing and I’m really grateful.”
Despite a last-minute change in opponent, Ndebele is relishing the opportunity to continue his evolution from BRAVE to PFL Africa, and now PFL Global.
“I’ve always known that I’m the champion of the champions and that I belong on the big global stage. To the world there is a lot to prove, but I’ve been there before starting with BRAVE already that was global and I fought international fighters. This is exactly where I belong.
“Right now, eyes are on my throne, and I have to keep climbing the ladder to claim my place. To the world, if me fighting in PFL Global and then I go on to destroy these guys – that’s me proving myself. However, for me, mentally, I know I’m already at the top. If it’s easy it doesn’t make you stronger.”
Before the South African striker makes his PFL Global debut, he told SABC Sport that fighting in front of fellow South Africans in April was a special experience.
“I wouldn’t change anything because everything happens for a reason and I thank God for that. That fight in South Africa was supposed to happen, and it was a way for me to say that I’m still around and introduce them to my journey that has now taken me to the Global stage once again.”
Despite Mando Gutierrez “chickening” out in the words of Ndebele, he says he will still nonetheless deliver a big statement when he meets Brandon Davis in the cage this weekend.
