The Hollywood Athletics Club runner believes the race will feel like a home event because of Mangaung’s close proximity to Maseru.
The North West University sports science student is looking forward to competing on the streets of the Free State while enjoying support from fans travelling from her home country.
The race will start at 7am on Sir George Grey Street, near the exit of Grey College, before finishing at Kings Way in Mangaung.
Khatala is one of Lesotho’s most consistent 10km runners and will be keen to test herself against a strong field as she targets the title at the inaugural event.
Speaking to SABC Sport, she said the opportunity to race so close to home makes the occasion even more special.
“I am really excited because Mangaung feels close to home. This will be my first time racing in Mangaung, so I am really looking forward to the experience. Being from Lesotho, having the opportunity to race so close to Maseru is special because I know there will be people from home who can come out and support me,” said Khatala.
The Lesotho star has a personal best of 32:01 and has run under 32:10 four times this season, highlighting her consistency over the distance.
She has also shown her strength over longer distances, producing an impressive performance at the Two Oceans Marathon in April.
Khatala believes discipline, patience and trusting the process have played a key role in her progress.
“I think consistency comes from staying disciplined and trusting the process. It has been a really positive new chapter for me. I am still learning and building with my coach.
“Every race is different, so I try not to put too much pressure on myself to chase a time every time I compete. I focus on executing my race well and giving my best on the day.
“I am looking forward to enjoying the atmosphere, representing Lesotho proudly and hopefully giving the people back home something to be proud of,” she added.
