Master of the Masters: Jannik Sinner continues incredible streak with Miami Open crown

Jannik Sinner became the first player since Roger Federer to complete the Sunshine Double when he won the Miami Open final in straight sets on Sunday.

The rain-delayed final got under 90 minutes late, but that did not deter Sinner as he eased to a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Jiri Lehecka. The win extended his ATP Masters 1000 record to 34 consecutive sets won.

The Italian broke Lehecka in the third game of the opening set, then broke his spirit by saving three break points from 40/0 down the very next game.

In the second set, Sinner was flawless on serve while creating six break-point opportunities. He finally broke in the ninth game to go 5-4 up and served out the set and tournament with aplomb.

"We did a lot of work to be in this position, so I'm really, really happy, and I'm also happy to go back home now," Sinner said after the match.

"Making here the Sunshine Double here for the first time, it's incredible. It's something I would have never thought, because it's also difficult to achieve, and yeah, we made it somehow, so I'm very happy."

Meanwhile, Lehecka is focusing on the silver linings of the loss. The Czech upset sixth seed Taylor Fritz on his way to his maiden Masters final, a feat he is proud of.

"I think that these matches like today against these guys are showing me that there is still big, big, big room for improvement," Lehecka said in his post-tournament press conference.

"I played, in my opinion, a very good tournament here. I was very satisfied with my game. But today I again saw that there is still somewhere to go, and that I will really need to keep improving more and more if I want to be able to beat these guys in the final stages of these big events like Masters and Grand Slams."
