Montjane is the first active professional athlete in South Africa to personally fund and build sports infrastructure while still competing at elite levels.
Speaking to SABC Sport, Montjane says it is an honour to be able to touch lives and give back to Letaba Special School through her foundation.
“I am glad that we have managed to really complete this project. I hope these facilities will help the kids in terms of tennis programmes and encourage them to remain active. This is not only for kids who have interest in tennis but for all calls who want to be active. I am happy through the foundation we are able to touch lives and impact communities,’’ said Montjane.
The Montjane Sports Development Foundation’s visionary project came to life as South Africa celebrates women’s month.
Montjane says she is grateful to have a team that is supportive of women and their potential, and adds that it was also symbolic to launch during a month dedicated to women in the country.
“I am grateful that it all came to pass during women’s month. It shows that we are capable of doing amazing things and being at the forefront of community development. I also have to give credit to my incredible team for backing me behind the scenes to make sure that I continue to achieve my dreams and see them become a reality,’’ added Montjane.
Montjane comes from winning the Madrid Open in May, followed by securing the semifinals in singles and doubles at the Wimbledon Open.
She further shared insights regarding her preparations for the upcoming US Open, stating she will push hard to win gold in singles, a title she continues to chase.
“Yes, the preparations are going well for the US Open. I am happy that the journey has been good and that I did manage to push myself back into the top five. I just want to push further at the US Open, as you know this is the last leg of the year and I want to finish off on a high. I want to win this title, and hopefully the work that I put in can reward me,’’ she expressed.
