During the pre-fight press conference, the current WBC Bridgerweight Champion explained how the new innovative addition to the sport of boxing will be structured and warns the fighters not to go hunting for the KO…
"So basically, if a fighter wins via first round KO he wins 30K, round two is 25K, and it decreases like that with each round. We're just trying to make it exciting, but we know as fighters that you have to be smart, you can't have that in your mind because if you go looking for the knockout it usually doesn't come.
"However, with the calibre of fighters on the night, they don't need to go looking for the KO. Each and every one of them are either hot young prospects or seasoned campaigners. We'd love to pay the bonuses, but the fighters must still listen to their trainers and execute the gameplay because that's when the KO will land."
Lerena described Aquila Boxing Promotions as more of a movement in the sport of boxing, and this event proves they are out to do things a little differently.
"We've set aside approximately a quarter million for these knockout bonuses because if everyone wins by first round KO, we're going to have to pay.
"In the regulatory meeting with BSA, it was made very clear that each fighter will be paid their bonus within four days, and at the end of the tournament when we conduct an autopsy, BSA will have all those proof of payments. We do things very differently over here."
The COO of Boxing South Africa, Mandla Ntlanganiso was also in attendance at the Galleria in Sandton, and is also of the belief that an event like Knockout Chaos is exactly what we need in boxing.
he fight card features eight exciting bouts, from the two Super Middleweight match-ups to the heavyweight main event, the first edition of ‘Knockout Chaos’ should capture the imagination of boxing lovers.
