Mulaudzi clinched his third consecutive national cross-country crown but had to dig deep under hot and windy conditions against strong competition from his Central Gauteng Athletics (CGA) teammates.
Zenzile Pheko finished just a few seconds behind in 31:42, while Bennett Seloyi crossed the line third in 31:54.
Coached by Richard Meyer, Mulaudzi has been in unstoppable form this year.
Just two weeks ago, he secured a hattrick of victories in the Absa Run Your City 10km series, and yesterday he added another milestone by winning a third straight cross-country title.
Only days earlier, he placed second at the Hollywoodbets Durban 10km, clocking an impressive 28:01.
Looking ahead, he is the clear favourite for the Absa Run Your City Joburg 10km on Heritage Day, though he must decide whether to also line up at the Hollywoodbets Joburg 10km this coming Saturday.
Speaking after his victory, a modest Mulaudzi credited his coach Meyer and admitted it was a tactical race.
“The course was tough, and my legs were still heavy from the Durban race, but I’m happy to add another title — three in a row. At one stage around 6km I felt so tired I wanted to quit, but I kept pushing because defending my title was the ultimate goal. I can’t believe I’ve managed to achieve it.”
Despite carrying the pressure of being the favourite, he focused only on his own race plan.
Now, his sights are firmly set on another slice of history — a fourth consecutive Run Your City title.
“It wasn’t easy on the hills, but I didn’t struggle with the wind. I’ll go back to training and prepare for Joburg on Heritage Day, where my goal is to win four in a row and rewrite the history books,” he said.
