Van Wyk was instrumental in helping the jags to a bronze medal, after clinching the third spot with 14 points, just 6 points behind the league champions Golden Fireballs.
Speaking to SABC Sport, Van Wyk says she is pleased to be named amongst the standout players of what she believed to be a tough three legged tournament.
"I am overjoyed with being named the Defender of the Tournament. I think there are amazing defenders that really showed up from the first leg all the way until the last leg of the tournament. So, yeah, I'm just very, very grateful for this award," van Wyk said.
Despite failing to win the title this season, the Jaguars remain the most successful team in TNL history with 6 championships.
Van Wyk says they knew it would be a tough edition this season after getting a knock with key players sustaining injuries.
"I would say the Jaguars journey was challenging. I think there were a lot of new faces that came into the set up and we had three key players get injured already in the first leg. There were a lot of obstacles that we had to overcome and we did overcome them,” she added.
“Each game really got better and better. It wasn't enough to secure that final which I think everyone is still heart sore about but one thing we can take from that is it's the 1% that we really need to step up on. If we can always see a lesson through a loss. We are just gonna keep our heads held high and hopefully we can do much better next year."
