Di Woolley celebrates 2025 Kay Motsepe Netball Schools Championship

South African Schools Netball President Di Woolley says the Kay Motsepe Schools Cup is crucial to unearth future stars.

Woolley was amongst the delegates who graced the 2025 final leg of the tournament, hosted at Konka Resort in Rustenburg on Saturday.

Speaking to SABC Sport, Woolley believes this is a key programme to accelerate talent identification from the U12s to the U19s.

"At the end of the day, school sport is very important, and we all know that it is nice to be involved, but aspiring sports stars want to win, which is why we create national opportunities for all our athletes, from the u/12 level to the u/19 level.

"An event such as this teaches young athletes to win with dignity and to lose with pride, and ultimately achieves growth and development," said Di Woolley.

Manzomtombo of Western Cape and Helpmekaar of Gauteng were crowned champions in their respective streams, and will both represent South Africa at the International U15 championship in Singapore towards the end of November.

Woolley shared a message to the two teams ahead of the big showpiece abroad.

"Those two teams have achieved something special, and they now have the opportunity to represent and make the country proud."

The veteran sports administrator says she was blown away by the amount of talent she witnessed throughout the three-day tournament.

Woolley further added that it was important to host the championship during women’s month, to embrace women and young girls who continue to keep the sport alive in the country.
