The inaugural LIV Golf SA event came to a close at Steyn City on Sunday afternoon, with the American claiming his fifth LIV Golf title.
Speaking at the post-round press conference, DeChambeau credited his teammates for stepping up when it mattered most.
"I'm just grateful. It's been a tough few weeks, and you know its not always sunshine and rainbows, but I can tell you that having these three great people up here, and my caddie and the team around me, really helped me persevere on through tough moments.
"I'm super grateful for how this has all played out, I really don't have much else to say except that these guys really stepped up."
Noticeable to many on the 18th green was a teary Dechambeau, who opened up about the reason behind his emotions.
"There's stuff I can't talk about and stuff that I can talk about, obviously my dad - its been a few years now and I think it's time for people to see that I'm not a scientific robot, I care a lot and I have a lot of passion.
"I care about the game, I care about the people watching, I care about entertaining, I care about my team and pretty much everything. When you have moments in life that aren't easy, it's really nice to have had a father that can give you that perseverance and the wisdom to say 'Don't ever quit', you just have to keep going."
He was also moved by the overwhelming support from thousands of South African fans who waited outside the media centre, where the champion signed autographs and took selfies.
The 32-year-old said that LIV Golf gives players the opportunity to inspire children across the globe.
DeChambeau defeated Jon Rahm on the first playoff hole to secure his second consecutive LIV Golf individual title, while Crushers GC also claimed the team title.
