Russia's Bolshe! announced they had a major tennis scoop this week as journalist Sofya Tartakova broke the news on social media site X, writing: "Carlos Moya to coach Jannik Sinner! As Bolshe! has learned, the world No. 1 will start working with the Spanish coach in 2026."
Sinner is looking for a new coach to work alongside Simone Vagnozzi as Darren Cahill will step down after the 2025 season following three successful years with the team.
Since joining the Italian's team, Sinner won the 2004 and 2025 Australian Open, and the US Open trophy and ATP Finals in 2024, and four ATP Masters 1000 titles while he also became world No. 1 for the first time in his career after the 2024 French Open.
Many considered Moya a natural replacement for Australian Cahill as the Spaniard has enjoyed incredible success on the ATP Tour as he worked with all-time great Rafael Nadal.
Moya - who hung up his tennis racket at the end of the 2010 season - joined the tennis legend's team in 2017 and remained with him until he retired in November 2024. They won 21 titles as a team, including eight of Nadal's 22 Grand Slams and eight Masters 1000 trophies.
With no full-time coaching roles in 2025, taking over as Sinner's coach from the 2026 season was considered good timing for the Spaniard.
But there will be no Moya-Sinner partnership as the 1998 French Open winner set the record straight on Radio Nacional de España: "Me as his coach? Fake news as big as a house."
The 1998 Australian Open runner-up's response is not too big of a surprise as he only recently told Spanish media that he is not in a hurry to take up another coaching role following his lengthy spell on the tour with Nadal.
"Maybe in a few months or a few years I'll change my mind, but right now, I'm enjoying this moment," the former world No. 1 stated.
"After so much time travelling and competing, a detox period was a good idea. I'm not bored at all."
For now, the detoxing will continue while Sinner remains on the lookout for a coach to work with Vagnozzi, who has also been part of his team since 2022.
