This is understood to be an indication that the 21-year-old is then expected to feature prominently in coach Nasreddine Nabi’s plans ahead of the new Betway Premiership season, which kicks off later next month.

Jansen was promoted from the reserve team last season and got to make his Chiefs debut under coach Cavin Johnson in the final two games of the campaign, coming off the bench against Polokwane City and then getting the full 90 minutes in the 2-0 defeat away to relegated Cape Town Spurs.

However, he did not yet have a senior team contract as talks were ongoing regarding his future as Chiefs had begun the search for a new coach.

With Nabi arriving and making sweeping changes at Naturena, along with a big emphasis of giving young graduates an opportunity, Jansen appears to be one of the beneficiaries of the new regime.

During his spell with the DStv Diski Challenge team, Jansen often played as a right back or right wing and by May last year had scored 12 goals for Chiefs.

Jansen now joins a long list of academy graduates at Naturena to sign long-term contract following the elevation of players such as Mduduzi Vilakazi, Samkelo Zwane, Mfundo Vilakazi and Wandile Duba to name a few.
