The federation recently landed a major boost with a one-year R10 million sponsorship from Bombela Concession Company and a new apparel partnership with Fila.
Despite this support, Fritz is determined not to place unnecessary pressure on the swimmers and has stuck to his original target—reaching the finals.
He expressed excitement about securing Swimming SA’s first major sponsor since 2011, calling it a breakthrough moment for the sport.
"Like I said to you last week, our aim is to get into semi-finals and finals that would give us a good indication of where we are in terms of our preparations for Los Angeles but this injection would mean that we'll create a better environment from a federation point of view for our athletes to perform,” Fritz said.
“We want to give the young athletes the best opportunity to perform, ensure that they get the best support and we are really, really excited that Mbombela has come to the party in a great deal for the federation."
Swimming has consistently been South Africa’s top-performing sporting code at international championships, and the pressure to succeed remains high.
Fritz believes the new financial backing will not only aid preparations for Singapore but also help build towards the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
"We are the number one federation in terms of performances. A great deal is on our shoulders to produce medals whether it's in regional events which are completed. The regional event in Namibia where we produced 49 medals out of the 100 top medals,” he added.
“Always succeeding the 50% mark, great talent in the youngsters, be it continental or international. Our Olympic track record is there for everyone to see and we can't do that without investment.
“Mbombela has recognised that need and they said, we will support you for this year, in terms of contributing in preparing your athletes for the best, which is the Olympic Games."
