This comes after the 33-year-old former Olympic champion produced a stunning performance to claim bronze in the 100m butterfly at the Aquatics World Cup in Carmel, USA.
Fritz hailed Le Clos as an inspiration and believes the star still has plenty to give the sport despite being in the twilight of his career.
According to Fritz, Le Clos’ performance in America proves that he remains hungry for more success, adding that he expects him to qualify for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics before handing the baton to the next generation.
The former SASCOC board member confirmed that Le Clos plans to officially retire after the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
However, Fritz said the swimmer’s upcoming performances at the Commonwealth Games and national aquatics championships will serve as a preview of what to expect in his final Olympic appearance.
While some have questioned whether the Commonwealth Games still hold significance for athletes, Fritz insists the event remains important and highly regarded.
He revealed that Swimming South Africa plans to send its largest team yet — around 30 athletes — with the goal of securing more medals.
Fritz added that South Africa’s participation in the World Championships and World Cup series has boosted the confidence of local swimmers.
The national team bagged one gold and three bronze medals at the 2025 World Aquatics Championships in Carmel, Indiana, finishing 10th on the overall medal standings.
