The Stings saw off North West Flames on Sunday afternoon, coming out with a 54-48 victory at Ellis Park Arena in Johannesburg, and subsequently clinching their sixth victory from eight games played, their only two defeats coming against Free State Crinums and Gauteng Fireballs.
Speaking to SABC Sport, Kemp mentioned a few combinations which have worked for the Western Cape side.
“I am privileged to have twelve very versatile players. Amber Coraizin’s speed on wing attack was amazing. Simone Dry’s precision and timing was good and she combined well with Sian [Moore] and even Nicole [Breedt] in the last quarter so that was good to see,” said Kemp
Kemp says she was not all too impressed with how her team performed in the first quarter admitting that there was a disconnect in the attack.
“I would have loved a better first quarter. I think we prepared for a man-to-man defence and they gave us an area where we took a bit long to adapt and just switching up in the front. There was a little bit of a disconnect in the attacking third, but the new combinations gelled and pulled through.”
The mentor revealed what she told her side after the first quarter…
“I just said to them we are giving the ball on the drive and our ball placement is a bit bad. So we just need to fix that and make sure that when we get ball on hand that we execute our skills.”
The Stings are currently placed second on the log standings in Division 1 of the Telkom Netball League and Kemp says it is very important to continue to work hard to maintain their run in the competition.
Kemp also said it would be life changing for netball in the Western Cape should the Stings win the TNL as they are yet to win the annual tournament.
The Stings next take on unbeaten Free State Crinums on Tuesday, 26 May at 19h00.
