Mashele targets inaugural Tshwane 10km title

South Africa’s half marathon and 10km champion Precious Mashele is preparing for a new challenge: the inaugural Absa Run Your City Tshwane 10km race next month.

With his impressive national record of 27:35 in the 10-km race, Mashele wants to go down in the annals of history as the first winner of this prestigious race in the capital. He is determined and focused and wants to make a lasting mark on the event and cement his position as one of the best athletes in the country.

“I always like running at the Absa Run Your City series races. After my race, I get to spend time with those who do not race the way we do, and I love hearing about their experiences. It also helps to motivate me,” said Mashele, who has participated in the previous race in Cape Town, Gqeberha, and Durban this year.

The starting gun will sound promptly at 8 am at the Union Buildings and the first runner to cross the finish line will be rewarded with an impressive prize money of R30 000. Mashele, who is known for excelling on challenging courses, is eagerly anticipating race day. With enthusiasm and determination, he awaits the opportunity to showcase his running skills and compete for the coveted prize.

“I like tough courses. I run well on tough courses and I am training hard to prepare for race day. I am in the best possible condition and ready to execute my plan on the day.  I want to win the race,” said Mashele.

Stephen Mokoka, Collen Mulaudzi, and Glenrose Xaba are among the other notable runners in the event, all of whom live and train in Tshwane.
