Netball SA boss explains Dumisani Chauke’s position in the search for Norma Plummer’s replacement

Netball South Africa is poised to make an official announcement regarding the appointment of a new coach to succeed Norma Plummer in December.

It’s worth noting that despite having served as an assistant to two distinguished coaches Dorette Badenhorst and Plummer, assistant coach Dumisani Chauke is not guaranteed the position of successor.

The other two prospective candidates in contention for the role are Jenny Van Dyk, the head coach for the Proteas Under-21 team, and Rozanne Matthyse, the coach of the Jaguars. President Cecilia Molokwane, in her conversation with SABC Sport, expressed her surprise at the widespread assumptions that Chauke will automatically assume the reins after Plummer.

"I don't know why the name Dumisani Chauke has been raised because the team management has not changed. They are on contract until December, so, whoever is saying whatever they are saying I don't know why they are saying that but we are taking coaches with the team. There will be a coach that is going with this to Australia. There'll be a coach that is going with this team to England with us looking at what we can do to have a good succession plan which we did not have in 2019," said Molokwane.

“We've learnt from our mistakes. So, I don't know what is the name, why is it sold because at the end of the day we will have to look at the merits. We don't appoint you because you are who, we appoint you because of what you can bring to the sport of netball because if we can go with who you are and your name then it means we can even pick a Jane to come and do [coach]. So, your accolades in netball and your coaching career should say a lot for us appointing that coach."
