Mr Price Sport explains inspiration behind SA’s Commonwealth Games kit

Team South Africa’s Commonwealth Games apparel sponsor, Mr Price Sport Visual Brand Manager Lisa Jane Willms, explained the inspiration behind the team’s newly designed kit ahead of the Games in Glasgow from 23 July to 2 August.

The South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) has named a squad of 112 athletes who will compete across ten sporting codes.

After providing Team SA’s kit for the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham and the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, Mr Price Sport has once again created a fresh look for the national team.

Willms says the company is proud of the final design and believes it reflects the pride and spirit of representing South Africa on one of the biggest stages in world sport.

"The kit launch was hugely successful and very well received. We have a thing called field tested, where we put our product through the test while really listening to what the athletes are asking for. The design took a lot of time and effort so there's lots of unique elements to it."

Although the new Team SA kit has received plenty of praise, supporters will not be able to buy it.

Willms says the kit was designed exclusively for the athletes, but admitted the company will consider making future national team apparel available to fans.

Willms also highlighted the importance of Mr Price Sport’s partnership with SASCOC, saying it is a privilege for a proudly South African brand to support the country's athletes as they compete on the international stage.

"Mr Price Sport is a home grown local brand, and so to partner with Team South Africa is just a magical fit. The goal of Mr Price Sport is to make movement accessible to all South Africans, from grassroots level all the way to greatness on the international stage."

She says the company’s biggest hope is to see Team South Africa’s athletes arrive in Glasgow healthy, confident, and ready to perform at their best while proudly wearing the new kit.
