Jason Medi feels like a new fighter after joining No Doubt Management

The hard-hitting Jason Medi is seeking to soar to new heights under the stewardship of his manager Colin Nathan and trainer Chris Morrow.

The 25-year-old joined Nathan’s No Doubt Management earlier this year with the intention of securing bigger opportunities, whilst working with some of the finest boxing tacticians and trainers in the country.

Medi is adamant that it is every fighter's dream in South Africa to fight under the No Doubt Management banner.

“Colin Nathan witnessed me have a few sparring sessions with some of his fighters at his gym, and he offered me a contract to join his team, and I didn’t hesitate for a second, because it is most boxers' dream to fight under his guidance,” said Medi.

“The coaches have also been great to me, but my main coach, Chris Morrow, has been giving me a lot of attention. I feel like a more calculated, polished and dangerous boxer.”

Medi was last in action against Niclas Kasongo Nzengu a few weeks ago, and the towering super-middleweight fighter delivered an emphatic performance without taking any significant damage in the highly-anticipated rematch between the two.

According to Medi, the victory back in August was immensely satisfying.

“Winning that fight meant a lot to me, not in terms of records and rankings, but rather because my opponent had a lot to say in the lead up to the fight, so finishing him in the way I did was very satisfying,” he added.

The ambitious fighter has fought at middleweight, super-middleweight and light heavyweight before, but his intention for now is to remain at super-middleweight.

“I feel comfortable at both weights, and there aren’t any heavy-hitters in the country that I’ve shared the ring with. No fighter has made me feel like I’m in the wrong weight class because of their power,” Medi concluded.

Before his last eye-catching performance, Medi lost to Shadiri Musa via unanimous decision, but admitted he entered that fight with an illness – something he has learnt from.

He also revealed to SABC Sport that there aren’t any international fights lined up for him this year, but his team is looking to secure him a fight in November on a Boxing 5 Promotion fight card.
Jason Medi’s boxing journey started in 2018, and during his final matric exams he decided to head to the gym with his friend, and renowned talent Ricardo Malajika.
From that moment on, his obsession grew, and he fell in love with the sport.
