Sepeng, the trailblazer who made history as the first black South African to win an Olympic track medal with his unforgettable 800m silver at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games, is now building a legacy beyond the finish line.
With the backing of his role at Athletics South Africa as High-Performance Manager, Sepeng is bringing the stars out to play.
Sepeng’s signature event takes centre stage, where South Africa’s golden girl Prudence Sekgodiso will lead the charge against international contenders, including a strong challenge from Botswana — currently dominating the two-lap scene.
“This one is going to be explosive,” Sepeng says with a grin. “We’re crowning the king and queen of the 800m — that’s the main event.”
Olympic Games silver medalist Akani Simbine and Olympic champion Wayde van Niekerk headline a stacked lineup that promises pure speed and spectacle.
The men’s 100m alone is loaded — featuring the likes of Cheswill Johnson, Bradley Nkoana and a host of rising talents ready to make their mark.
Sepeng is using the platform to inspire the next generation, hosting development races to unearth young 800m talent.
“I started here, won a race as a kid, and the rest is history,” he reflects. “Now it’s about giving others that same opportunity."
