Charlton Malajika gears up for fight of his life in Lusaka

The much-anticipated fight is scheduled to take place at the Government Complex in Lusaka, Zambia tomorrow night (25 July). 

Mwale, currently undefeated, puts his crown on the line against South Africa’s ‘Baby Pain’ Malajika who has been on a nine-fight winning streak, the last of which was a sound performance against Froilan Saludar in October last year.

This fight between Mwale and Malajika was initially intended to take place in December last year, but the South African succumbed to a knee injury, but destiny delayed is not destiny denied for the South African challenger.

“I’m feeling strong and I’m very excited to enter back into the ring. I’ll obviously be in the champions backyard, so I’ll have to work even harder, but I’m going to snipe the ‘sniper’. My coach has come up with a good plan, and now I just have to deliver.”

“Just like my brother (Ricardo Malajika) I’m in this sport to become the best and I want to build a legacy for myself. As big as this fight is, it’s just another stepping stone for me to go on and achieve something even bigger. With the guidance of my coach, I believe that I am mentally and physically ready.”

As for the Zambian Champion, Mwale says he has been itching to enter into the ring in front of his hometown fans.

“I have pushed myself to the limit over these last three months. I am in a very good space, I feel focused and ready to defend my belt.

Charlton Maljika’s teammate Siyakholwa Kuse was recently crowned the WBC strawweight Champion of the World, and his brother will also be fighting for the WBC Junior Bantamweight title in Japan come September. His trainer Manny Fernandes says, ‘Baby Pain’ Malajika will deliver a statement performance on enemy soil.

“Charlton has been putting in the work, and we’ve done our research on Mwale and we believe Charlton has the ability to defeat him and bring the title back to South Africa."
