“Baby Pain” Malajika tore a ligament in his left knee during his preparation for the biggest fight of his career to date.
The current IBO Youth Bantamweight Champion was ready to deliver a firework display on December 27 against Zambia’s Mwale and add to his three victories in 2025.
Instead, the skilled practitioner and the boxing public will have to wait quite a while to see one of the country’s best in action again.
In an exclusive interview with SABC Sport, Malajika emphasised his disappointment, but also his eagerness to get back into the ring.
“Up until the injury, preparations were going really well, and I was ready to execute the plan.
“I’m doing a lot better now because when it happened, I couldn’t move my leg and I had a few sleepless nights, but we’re getting there.”
Malajika is still chasing lofty goals in the fight game, and believes this injury is a minor setback along the way to greatness.
When asked when he might be ready to return, this is what Charlton Malajika had to say.
“I’m hoping to be back in the ring by March next year, but that will also depend on my recovery. If they will rebook my title fight, I don’t know because all that is up to the promoters."
