With representation across 18 sporting disciplines, Team SA aims to excel in this West African setting. Moloi perceives the African Games as a valuable platform for local athletes to assess their readiness for the Paris Games.

As the track and field season commences officially in mid-March, athletes will have the opportunity to challenge themselves against established names in African athletics.

The formidable 41-member athletics squad bound for the Games is spearheaded by renowned athletes including Antonia Alkana, Thabang Mosiako, Victor Hogan, Precious Mashele, Mpho Links, Tamzin Thomas, Banele Shabangu, and Taylon Bieldt, among others.

“This presents yet another chance for our athletes to measure themselves against the top contenders on the continent. With it being an Olympic year, the sporting calendar is packed. We wholeheartedly encourage and extend our best wishes to our athletes as they embark on the Africa Games.’’

“Participating in numerous events is crucial for assessing readiness for the Paris showdown. Our commitment remains steadfast in supporting our athletes, aiding their preparations with the Games forming a crucial part of our mandate,” Moloi told SABC Sport.

ASA failed to secure a medal at the previous Games in Tokyo, Japan. Nonetheless, Moloi has assured that they will turn the tide and strive for success in Paris.

“We’re diligently preparing the athletes and addressing our shortcomings from Tokyo. We stand firmly behind our athletes and hold every confidence that they will excel in France,” Moloi affirmed.
