Sundowns stay unbeaten in CAF Champions League with draw at Al Ahly

Mamelodi Sundowns claimed a 2-2 draw against Al Ahly in their CAF Champions League clash at Al-Salam Stadium to maintain top spot in Group B.

The Pretoria outfit made a promising start to the game as star striker Peter Shalulile found the back of the hosts' net in the 34th minute after a cross from Cassius Mailula.

Masandawana maintained their advantage until the half-time break. The home team had a great opportunity to equalise five minutes into the second stanza, but missed a penalty via Mohamed Hany.

Despite the setback, Al Ahly drew level just shy of the hour mark when Mohamed Abdelmonem finally scored the home team's opener.

The centre-back's equaliser seemed to turn the tide as the home support found something to shout about, and in the 74th minute they were ahead for the first time.

The go-ahead strike was provided by winger Hussein El Shahat and put the Egyptian giants 2-1 ahead against the group leaders.

Sundowns showed their winning attitude after going a goal down and were rewarded in the 80th minute as Thapelo Morena produced an excellent finish to make it 2-2.

In the end the two sides could not be separated and had to settle for a share of the spoils, leaving Sundowns top of the group with two wins and a draw, while Al Ahly are in third after a loss and a draw.
