Pirates face PSL DC following pitch invasion
PSL Prosecutor Zola Majavu has confirmed that Orlando Pirates have been charged for "spectator misbehaviour" following the pitch invasion from the MTN8 semifinal second leg on 22 October.
Pirates fans stormed the pitch at Peter Mokaba Stadium following their 3-0 victory over Mamelodi Sundowns last month, as they celebrated the club reaching the MTN8 final.
This has since landed on the desk of Majavu, who has subsequently hauled the Buccaneers before the Premier Soccer League's Disciplinary Committee.
"I can confirm that Orlando Pirates Football Club has been charged for spectator misbehaviour arising from the pitch invasion of their spectators in the semifinal match between themselves and Mamelodi Sundowns Football Club," said Majavu in a media release.
"They [Pirates] will appear before the PSL DC on 14 November 2022 at 10:30 am. In the intervening period, there will be no further commentary on the matter."
Similarly, Kaizer Chiefs underwent the same process following their supporters' pitch invasion during their MTN8 quarterfinal against Stellenbosch FC at Danie Craven Stadium on 28 August.
Amakhosi were subsequently slapped with a R200 000 fine, half of which was suspended for a period of 24 months, while the PSL were also made to shoulder the blame as the event organisers of cup matches.
Pirates will face AmaZulu in the MTN8 final at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday evening (18:00). The match will be broadcast LIVE on SABC 1 and SABC Radio Stations.
