Fadlu gets three new signings at Maritzburg

Maritzburg United are expected to announce the arrival of three new players in their attempts to beef up coach Fadlu Davids’ squad, SABC Sport can reveal.

It is understood the Team of Choice will be signing three defenders in Wayde Jooste, Kgotso Moleko and Mogamad De Goede.

Davids is delivering on his promise to reshuffle things, having taken over from John Maduka, who was sacked following a string of poor results.

Jooste had been training with United for several weeks now, and the fact that he previously worked with Davids at Orlando Pirates for two seasons was an added advantage for a player who can be versatile where needed.

But Moleko on the other hand has been without a club since July after AmaZulu offloaded him at the end of the 2021/22 campaign, meaning the former Kaizer Chiefs defender has been a free agent for some time now.

He is highly experienced and is expected to add value to the Team of Choice and helping them improve their worrying log position.

What may come as a shock is the decision taken by Stellenbosch FC to allow captain De Goede to leave midway through the season. after it emerged that Maritzburg had already offered a favourable three-year deal.

The centre-back featured in 10 of their 14 matches so far, missing three of those through injury and suspension while he sat on the bench in the final game before the FIFA World Cup break, which ended in a 1-0 defeat to AmaZulu.

SABC Sport understands that all deals have been concluded and will be announced by Maritzburg before Davids takes charge of his first game against TS Galaxy on 30 December at Harry Gwala Stadium.

The Team of Choice are currently bottom of the table with 11 points tallied from 13 games.
