Mamelodi Sundowns announce huge R200,000 FIFA23 Tournament

Mamelodi Sundowns are celebrating their inclusion in the newest version of EA Sports' FIFA23 by organising a tournament with a prizepool of R200,000.

The club is teaming up with experienced esports organisation Mettlestate to put on the the event and make sure it goes smoothly.

The finals will be held at the Mamelodi Sundowns stand of the rAge 2022 expo with thousands of people watching on.

In order to make it there, though, players will need to compete, and win, at one of four live qualifiers happening around the country (details at the bottom of the page).

The best player at each qualifier and four more from the online qualifiers will make it through to the finals.

The top eight will be flown out to Gauteng for the rAge expo at Gallagher Convention Centre from 9-11 December.

“Many of the people in our football club are fans of the FIFA series and are aware of the passion that South African gamers have towards the video game," said chairman of Mamelodi Sundowns Tlhopie Motsepe.

"That is one of the reasons that the moment Mamelodi Sundowns was announced as the latest African team to be included in FIFA 23, we knew that we had to give our supporters and fans of the game a chance to celebrate with us.

“We hope this kickstarts local excitement around football while giving gamers and lovers of FIFA series the chance to play in a competition that was made especially for them.

"This is our first project in the esports industry and we are excited to see where this leads us. I’d like to thank our staff members, our partners and our board for helping us make this possible.”

rAge Expo is one of the biggest gaming events of the year it’s finally back after a two-year hiatus because of COVID restrictions and lockdown.
