Weather wins as SA20 matches abandoned in Johannesburg and Centurion

Both SA20 fixtures scheduled for Saturday were abandoned without a ball being bowled as rain and lightning wreaked havoc in Johannesburg and Centurion.

At the Wanderers, Match 11 between the Joburg Super Kings and Sunrisers Eastern Cape was initially delayed by lightning and intermittent drizzle.

Conditions eventually improved enough for play to be scheduled at 4:15pm, more than two hours after the original start time, with the match reduced to a five-over contest.

Super Kings captain Faf du Plessis won the toss and elected to bowl, but just moments before the rescheduled start, lightning returned to the area. With no signs of improvement, officials were left with no option but to abandon the match without a ball being bowled.

Later in the evening, the day's second match between Durban's Super Giants and the Pretoria Capitals at Centurion met a similar fate.

After a delay of nearly two hours, the rain relented long enough for a toss to take place, with Pretoria Capitals winning and choosing to bowl.

However, just before the scheduled 16-over-a-side contest was due to begin, the rain returned and refused to ease, forcing a second abandonment of the day.
