Tilak Varma insists India want to play 'fearless cricket' despite home pressure

Tilak Varma insists India want to continue to play 'fearless cricket' in their must-win clash against West Indies at the T20 World Cup despite home pressure.

The co-hosts beat Zimbabwe by 72 runs in Chennai on Thursday to set up a virtual quarterfinal against West Indies in Kolkata on Sunday.

India piled on a total of 256-4 in their victory against teh African country, a far cry from their tentative batting approach in the defeat against South Africa, where they were bowled out for 111.

"We want to play the fearless cricket," Tilak said. after teh victory against Zimbabwe.

"The brand of cricket we played today and since last year, the same intent we want to keep in the next game as well.

"So if the wicket is not good, then we'll adjust and we'll keep that intensity on, but I would not say we (have to target) 250. But if we get a good start then of course we'll go for it."

Tilak contributed 44 from just 16 deliveries against Zimbabwe and explained his approach when he is in the middle.

He said: "When I go to bat, I always think that if the ball is in my range, I will hit six in the first ball and then I will see for a four.

"Now, (against Zimbabwe), I was thinking - that if the wicket has fallen, I will take two-three balls' time. So, we had a little mindset (change)."
