Temba Bavuma returns from injury to lead Proteas in Test series against India

Temba Bavuma has returned from injury and will captain the Proteas squad in the two-match Test series against India next month.

Bavuma sat out the 1-1 series draw in Pakistan as he was still recovering from a left calf strain and will play a first-class match for South Africa A against India A before linking up with the Test squad.

The group is similar to the one that did duty against Pakistan with David Bedingham and Prenelan Subrayen missing out.

The Proteas squad includes three frontline spinners in Simon Harmer, Keshav Maharaj and Senuran Muthusamy, while Kagiso Rabada and all-rounders Corbin Bosch, Marco Jansen and Wiaan Mulder provide the pace options.

Proteas head coach Shukri Conrad said: "We've kept the bulk of the squad that competed in the two-match series against Pakistan.

"Those players showed real character and fought hard to come from behind and draw that series.

"We are anticipating a similar challenge in India, and many of the players who stood up in those conditions will once again be key for us.

"Pakistan was a squad effort and India will demand the same. Every player has a role to play in ensuring we remain competitive in what is always a tough place to tour."

The first Test against India gets underway on 14 November at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, before the teams head to Guwahati, where the ACA Stadium will host its maiden Test match from 22 November.

Proteas Test squad: Temba Bavuma (captain), Aiden Markram, Ryan Rickelton, Tristan Stubbs, Kyle Verreynne, Dewald Brevis, Zubayr Hamza, Tony de Zorzi, Corbin Bosch, Wiaan Mulder, Marco Jansen, Keshav Maharaj, Senuran Muthusamy, Kagiso Rabada, Simon Harmer
