Sinalo Jafta unfazed by defeat to Australia ahead of World Cup semis

Proteas Women wicketkeeper-batter Sinalo Jafta says the loss to Australia is just an opportunity to reflect on themselves and reset their strategy going into the ICC Women’s World Cup semifinals.

South Africa were soundly beaten by seven wickets by the defending champions, who put them in to bat first, as they posted a timid 97 runs.

Captain Laura Wolvaardt top scored with 31, while Jafta contributed a quickfire 29 runs, and she says they’ll go back and work on their batting before Wednesday’s semi-final against England.

"I think, for us as a team, it gives us a great opportunity to kind of like sit, reflect and just see where we went wrong ahead of the semi-finals," said Jafta.

"I mean, we've got brilliant coaches in coach Baakier as a batting coach, and he's been brilliant with us since he came in, so it's literally [about] just going out there, forgetting what happened and just focus on what works for us.

"We've proved right before, so what's stopping us from doing it again?"

The Proteas Women faced England in their World Cup opener, and things went awry as they were bundled out for just 69, but Jafta insists they will be better prepared in the knockout clash.

"We're facing England, and I think for us we obviously played them in the first game and it didn't pan out the way we wanted, but going into that match, we know exactly what to do," she added.

"We've prepped and it's not that a game like this [against Australia] makes us a bad squad, it's just to literally hone in together and the culture has been brilliant, so we've got that bounce back ability."
