Tazmin Brits: Record-breaking World Cup century not my best

Proteas Women opening batter Tazmin Brits has proclaimed her record-breaking ICC Women’s World Cup century against New Zealand does not rank as the best of her career.

Brits broke the record for the most centuries ever scored in a calendar year by a woman in One Day International cricket, when she notched up her fifth in 2025 and helped the Proteas Women beat New Zealand by six wickets on Monday.

Brits’ 101 also broke Meg Lanning’s record for the fewest innings to seven centuries in women’s ODIs, having taken just 41 matches to the Australian’s 44, but she rates her recent 101 not-out against Pakistan as a better display.

"This one was a bit fun. For some reason, I was middling the ball a bit better, but I think the best century was the one Kappi and I batted for that long period of time," said Brits.

"I think that was probably the toughest century that I've had to make."

This was South Africa’s first win of this year’s ICC Women’s World Cup currently taking place in India and Sri-Lanka, after the most extraordinary false start on Friday when they were thrashed by England.

The 34-year-old explained how the training camps at home have helped her meteoric rise this year, and how she’s grown in her shot selection because of that.

"Ja, we've been having a lot of batting camps, and also [having worked on] the position where I stand has made the way I play the shot a bit better," she added.

"But, ja, I think I've just been working on it very hard. There's nothing really different, I've just tried to expand my shot selection a bit more, and I've been working very hard on that."
