Hridoy plays 'impactful innings' as Bangladesh achieve highest T20I chase

Tawhid Hridoy expressed his delight after playing what he described as an "impact innings" to help Bangladesh beat New Zealand by six wicket in the first of three T20Is.

Batting at number 4, Hridoy struck an unbeaten 51 from just 27 balls as the hosts chased down a target of 183 with two overs to spare.

It was Bangladesh's highest succesful run-chase in T20Is and Hridoy paid special tribute to Parvez Hossain Emon and Shamim Hossain, who came in after him to finish off the game.

Emon scored 28 from 14 balls while Hossain was unbeaten on 31 from just 13 deliveries as the Tigers went 1-0 ahead against the Black Caps.

"You might get the occasional half-century batting at No. 5 or 6. If you see someone getting a fifty from that position, you will figure out that the team is on the back foot, as we must have lost three or four early wickets," Hridoy said.

"Having said that, I thought Shamim and Emon played the type of innings that was as good as scoring fifties.

"It is important to understand the importance of such impactful innings. We are also guilty of thinking about fifties and hundreds, but sometimes even an innings of ten runs can have an impact in a T20 match. The way Shamim and Emon batted, it made us win with a lot of ease."

Bangladesh will look to seal the series with the second game set to take place in Chattogram on Wednesday.
