South African seamer Chad Laycock makes history in Pro20 Cup clash

Chad Laycock became the first player to take five wickets in an over in South African professional cricket when he achieved the feat against the Titans in a Pro20 Cup clash in Pietermaritzburg.

The seamer etched his name into the record books in the 19th over of the Titans' innings when he dismissed Leus du Plooy before removing Dayyaan Galiem, Aphiwe Mnyanda, Janco Smit and Esosa Aihevba in four consecutive deliveries.

Laycock finished with figures 6-26 in his four overs, also a new competition record, surpassing the previous best of 6-29 recorded by left-arm paceman Beuran Hendricks in 2014.

Laycock's heroics was still not enough to pull off a victory for his team, with the Tuskers falling to a 21-run defeat at the City Oval in Pietermaritzburg after the hosts reached 183-6 chasing the Titans' target of 204.

Elsewhere in the ProT20 Cup, Northern Cape Heat recorded their first victory of the competition, defeating Limpopo Impalas by 14 runs in a rain-affected encounter at the Kimberley Oval.

Batting first at home, Heat posted 171-6, with Steve Stolk leading the charge with an impressive 89, supported by Liam Doherty's 39.

The Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method reduced the Impalas' revised chase to just over eight overs. They managed 65/4, leaving them as the only Pool B side yet to register a victory.
