Easterns are one of only two Division 2 teams still left in the competition alongside Garden Route Badgers, having snuck in with the last qualification spot in Pool A during the round robin stage.
While the Benoni side lost their first match of the Super 8s to DP World Lions last night, he says they’re proud of what they’ve achieved.
"Yeah us qualifying for the Super 8 is really exciting and something that we are proud of. There's a goal that we setout for at the beginning of the season when the fixtures were announced and the competion format was given we were really excited that was a goal of us so really cool to achieve that and we are proud of that," said Britz
Easterns won only two matches in the pool stage against SA Emerging and Flexbrands Knights, but he pointed their match against Defabet Boland - which they lost in the Super Over – as one that has given them the most belief and confidence.
It took a while for them to find their feet in the competition, with their first victory coming on match-day five against the Knights.
He believes they have gotten better and better along the way.
Britz credited the newly-formed Pro20 Cup for giving Division 2 sides a chance to compete at the highest level, with their Division 1 counterparts.
He explained what lessons they’ve taken from the competition so far.
"The biggest difference we've noticed between the first and second divisions is the ability to identify moments in the game that are truly important and to win those moments. We have done it on occasions; I feel the first division teams do it a little better than we do.
"So if we can identify those moments in the game where we need someone to step up, or as a collective to step up and realize this is an important moment, and hopefully win those moments, we will go a long way in competing. Just identifying those moments is really important."
